Gum diseases are among the most common chronic diseases in humans. Gum bleeding is one of the most frequent symptoms of this condition. This situation can often lead to a process that may result in tooth loss. Periodontal diseases (gum diseases) are responsible for 70% of tooth loss in adults. In addition, teeth, which are directly related to blood circulation and the immune system in the body, can contribute to the development of many diseases more than expected or worsen existing conditions. Many studies show that conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, rheumatic diseases, premature birth, and miscarriage during pregnancy may be associated with dental diseases.
Why does gum bleeding occur?
The main cause of gum bleeding is plaque accumulation around the gums. This condition is called gingivitis, which refers to inflamed gums. When plaque hardens into tartar, it leads to a more advanced gum and jawbone disease known as periodontitis. Eventually, bone loss occurs, followed by tooth loss. However, tooth loss can be prevented through early diagnosis. Therefore, early detection is very important in periodontal treatment.
The main cause of gum disease is the biofilm layer formed due to insufficient tooth brushing. In patients who do not brush properly, do not use dental floss, and do not use mouthwash, the formation of tartar and biofilm is inevitable. For this reason, we recommend that patients do not neglect their daily oral care and also visit our clinic at least twice a year for check-ups and professional dental cleaning.
In cases such as bad breath, sensitive gums, gum bleeding, gum recession, teeth starting to move apart or become loose, changes in tooth alignment, or poor fit of existing prosthetics with the oral and jaw structure, it is necessary to consult a dentist for periodontal treatment.
Gum Bleeding Treatment
Teeth are the only organ in our body that cannot heal on its own. Therefore, instead of reactive treatment methods of the past, today preventive and protective treatment methods are applied. For treatment, we first listen to the patient’s complaints who comes to our clinic. During the initial examination and, if necessary, using all required imaging techniques, we determine the treatment needed. Then we share the stages of the treatment process with the patient.
We first perform professional tooth and plaque cleaning. At this stage, we use an ultrasonic scaler device to remove all tartar and plaque without damaging the tooth surface. Then, if necessary, we use an air polishing device (“airflow”) to remove stains from the teeth, followed by polishing. In this stage, we clean dental stains in the shortest, most effective, and most long-lasting way without damaging the tooth surface. In the next step, we clean between the teeth using dental floss and apply fluoride to the tooth surface. In periodontal treatments, both manual instruments and ultrasonic devices may be used. Our goal in all these procedures is to ensure the patient experiences minimal pain. This is made possible by a special solution containing hydroxyapatite that we use during treatment. Thanks to this, all necessary cleaning and treatment procedures in periodontal pockets can be performed painlessly. As a result, pain-free treatment helps patients attend follow-up treatments without fear.
